A Celebration of the Newest Improv Venue and School in Austin

Some of Austin’s most experienced and respected improvisers are joining forces to launch the next improv school in town and an ongoing revue of improvised theater. Audiences can come see top-notch comedy and compelling stories and students can study with some of our city’s best teachers.  On Friday February 22nd come celebrate the grand opening of the Merlin Works Institute for Improvisation and Gnap! Theater Projects Improv Shows with live improv comedy from Get Up and friends, and a party with drinks, dancing, and drama.

Gnap! Theater Projects shows will feature some of the finest improv veterans in town creating improvised theater based on audience suggestions. After the initial opening, the season will continue with shows every 2nd and 4th Saturday at 10:30pm, starting in March.

The Merlin Works Institute is the new venture by some of Austin’s most experienced and respected improvisers. The Merlin Works Institute is for aspiring improvisers, people who want to have fun, be more spontaneous, and more confident in front of groups, business professionals who want training to improve job performance, or anyone just looking for a new creative outlet. We specialize in creating a safe environment for students to take risks and grow. We teach both short form improvisation (ala Whose Line Is It Anyways) and narrative long form improvisation, in which scenes are often interrelated by story, characters, and themes—in other words, unscripted comedic plays.

Austin’s improv scene is booming with classes and venues such as the Hideout Theatre and Coldtowne Theater. With a third venue and training center, improv in Austin is officially booming. This new location will be the only improv in town to focus solely on short form gameplay and narrative longform.

On Friday February 22nd come celebrate the grand opening of the Merlin Works Institute for Improvisation and Gnap! Theater Projects Improv Shows with live improv comedy from Get Up and friends, and a party with drinks, dancing, and drama.
